Falcone and Borsellino Airport

Monday 20 May 2002 was the inauguration of the the new anti-terrorist security system designed by GPS Standard at the “Falcone e Borsellino” airport in Palermo.It is an innovative project which guarantees the airport of Palermo a higher security rating with respect to other national airports and offers the airline companies a higher standard of protection and all at high technology. This level of security, which became the new standard set by the Police and the Prefecture after the attacks of 11 September on the Twin Towers, provides for a more sophisticated system for the Italian airports which must be implemented by the end of the year.The project is sponsored and supported by Enac, l’Ente Nazionale per l’aviazione civile, by the Palermo frontier police and Punta Raisi and by Gesap, the organisation which has financed the work and which manages the airport.

Security in cities

The security in a city is certainly one of the most important topics to which many Community Administrations, in line with the program of the regional government, are trying to give an answer. The levels of security can be increased using solutions that propose the use of video surveillance systems, technologies that are able to ensure effective improvement to the levels of security and a better organization of the staff nominated to carry out such tasks.

In particular the Administrations interested in the topic want to reduce the growing and widespread sense of insecurity of city centre inhabitants by making use of systems and products that contribute to the reduction in the phenomena where the people using the streets do not comply with rules of normal behaviour and the more common criminal activities in the city, giving back to the communities the city centre spoilt by the behaviour.

It therefore appears obvious to use solutions that aid the activities of the police, giving an answer to the question of security in city centres, using innovative solutions based on the most modern technologies and from these, in particular, high definition digital video recording, coupled with video surveillance on Fast Ethernet LAN networks with TCP/IP protocol. 

GPS Standard, a company that pays attention to social and technological changes, has been occupied for a long time of the design of systems able to meet these requirements. 

In collaboration with the Community of Palermo, planned by Ing. Mazzon and executed by AMG Energy of Palermo, (controlled by Ing. Hyenas and by P.I. Chiarenza), will shortly initiate a video control system for environment monitoring and traffic monitoring at the more important junctions in the city.
